Member Interview: Molly Kramer

Molly is a kind natured doula who offers focused care to postpartum families. She brings a knowledge of Ayurveda to her work which allows her to help folks heal and flourish in their postpartum time.

What services do you offer to folks during conception, pregnancy, birth, or postpartum?

I offer postpartum doula services focused on nourishing mothers and birthing people with Ayurvedic healing rituals in the magical & vulnerable window after birth. This can include warm oil massage for the birthing person, nourishing snacks & meals, light housekeeping, general lactation support, and other household tasks.

How did you get into your line of work?

I became fascinated by postpartum care after learning about the Ayurvedic perspective on the sacred window of 42 days following birth. It seemed so obvious that caring for new parents and their babies in this vulnerable time can facilitate better health for families and communities, and yet, the culture doesn’t often allow for this. After nerding out on all things birth and postpartum, I hoped to play a small part in bridging this gap.

What do people think you do to support folks?

Some people have believed postpartum caregiver to mean that I am a baby nurse or babysitter.

What do you actually do to support folks?

I am actually there to help facilitate a secure connection between parents & baby - and my role in this facilitation is to allow the parent to feel taken care of & nourished, and to keep the household running smoothly. I’m available to hold the baby if needed (I.e while parent showers, babywearing during massage, while parent naps, etc.), but this is not my primary role.

What is something that you feel like you are uniquely able to help people with?

I have a background in Ayurvedic medicine so I’m passionate about helping the birthing person feel nourished & as rested as possible! I offer my compassionate support along with this ancient wisdom, and hope to meet all clients exactly where they are — recognizing that support comes in many forms, and can shift throughout the day.

What is the one piece of advice you find yourself telling people over and over again?

Your needs are as valid as your baby’s needs.
